Biden Announces $770 Relief Payment for Los Angeles Wildfire Victims

One-Time $770 Payment for LA Wildfire Victims: Biden’s New Relief Plan

President Joe Biden has announced that the federal government will provide one-time payments of $770 to individuals affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. This assistance, facilitated through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Critical Needs Assistance Program, aims to help survivors cover immediate necessities such as food, gas, prescriptions, and other essential expenses.

As of Monday, approximately 6,000 people have applied for this aid. President Biden emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “People impacted by these fires are going to receive a one-time payment of $770, so they can quickly purchase things like water, baby formula, and prescriptions.”

To apply for this assistance, affected residents can use FEMA’s online portal, which requires information such as ZIP code and the types of assistance needed. Applicants generally qualify if they have been unable to access their homes for at least seven days. FEMA has also set up a helpline at 1-800-621-3362 for those seeking more information or assistance with the application process.

It’s important to note that this one-time payment is intended to address immediate needs and does not cover insurable losses or provide housing assistance.

Additional forms of aid may be available as applications are reviewed, potentially offering support for temporary housing and home repairs.

This initiative is part of a broader federal response to the devastating wildfires in Southern California, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property.

The federal government has also deployed 500 U.S. Marines to assist with search-and-rescue operations and other emergency services in the affected areas.
