As the United States approaches the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, President Joe Biden has called on Americans to remember the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. In an op-ed for The Washington Post, Biden emphasized the importance of recalling the events of that day to prevent a recurrence. He stated, “We cannot accept a repeat of what occurred four years ago.”
Biden contrasted the chaotic events of January 6, 2021, with the anticipated peaceful certification of Trump’s election victory. He expressed confidence in a smooth transfer of power, noting that Congress is set to certify Trump’s win without anticipated disruptions.
The President also condemned efforts to downplay or rewrite the history of the January 6 attack, asserting that such actions undermine the nation’s democratic values. He emphasized the need to preserve the truth of that day for future generations.
