Borno’s New Ban on Street Hawking and Keke Operations: What You Need to Know

The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has implemented a ban on street hawking and various other activities in Maiduguri metropolis. This action aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.

The prohibited activities include:

  • Street hawking
  • Operation of tricycles (Keke Napep)
  • Generator repair activities around the Post Office and Monday Market areas
  • Activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts
  • Sale of engine oil on road reserves
  • Dumping of sand or building materials
  • Mixing of cement on roads
  • Construction of boreholes by roadsides

Individuals engaged in these activities have been instructed to vacate the affected sites immediately. The BSUPDB has warned that failure to comply will result in arrest and prosecution.

The objective of these measures is to ensure a clean, safe, and organized urban environment in Maiduguri and other parts of the state.

Residents and business owners are urged to adhere to the ban to avoid legal consequences.
