Borussia Dortmund has dismissed head coach Nuri Sahin following a 2-1 Champions League defeat to Bologna, marking the club’s fourth consecutive loss across all competitions.
This downturn has left Dortmund 10th in the Bundesliga, 20 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and jeopardized their Champions League progression.
Sporting director Lars Ricken expressed that the decision was difficult but necessary, stating, “We have unfortunately lost faith that we will achieve our sporting goals.”
Sahin, a former Dortmund player with over 250 appearances, took over as head coach in June 2024 but managed only one win in the last nine games.
In the interim, U19 coach Mike Tullberg will lead the first team, starting with the upcoming match against Werder Bremen.
Potential long-term replacements include former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and ex-Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac.
