Breaking News: 21 Minors Rescued from Traffickers by Yobe Immigration

Yobe Immigration Agents Rescue 21 Children from Human Traffickers

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 21 minors, aged between seven and 15 years, from suspected human traffickers in Yobe State. The children were being transported from Labule and Ibeto towns in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State to Maine Soroa in the Niger Republic. They were intercepted at the Geidam border outpost, a short distance from the Geidam Control Post in Dunari, Yobe State.

The suspected trafficker, 28-year-old Abubakar Saidu, who claims to be an Islamic school teacher from Anaba in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, was arrested along with his accomplices. The minors, who lacked travel documents and were unaware of their intended destination, are believed to be victims of human trafficking.

The Comptroller of the Yobe State Command of the NIS, S. S. Jega, stated that the Comptroller General of Immigration, KN Nandap, has directed that the arrested suspects be handed over to the appropriate government agency for further action upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations.

The NIS has since handed over the rescued children and the suspects to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.

This interception underscores the NIS’s commitment to border security and migration management, aiming to prevent such acts and ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals.
