Tragic Herdsmen Attack in Ebonyi: Numerous Fatalities Reported

On February 1, 2025, suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 residents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the community in the early hours, setting houses ablaze and shooting indiscriminately. Many villagers fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.

Governor David Umahi has condemned the attack, describing it as “inhuman and barbaric,” and has called for calm while assuring that security agencies are working tirelessly to restore peace in the area.
