Mali’s junta leader, Colonel Assimi Goita, recently dismissed Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga and his entire government.
This move followed Maiga’s rare public criticism of the military regime, where he warned that the indefinite postponement of the country’s transition to civilian rule could lead to setbacks.
Since the 2020 and 2021 coups, Mali has been under military rule, and the junta had previously promised elections by March 2024, but these have now been delayed indefinitely.
