The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled a child trafficking syndicate, arresting three individuals, including a 54-year-old woman named Patience Chikieze.
The arrests followed the abduction of a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, by 35-year-old ThankGod Taiwo in the Oluke area of Ijoko Ota. Taiwo sold Mercy to Chikieze for ₦650,000 at Ipaja Roundabout in Lagos State. Upon her arrest in the Lafenwa-Itele area, Chikieze confessed that her intended buyer rejected the child due to her age.
The police also apprehended 43-year-old Oluyinka, another member of the syndicate. The leader of the group, known as Mama Faith, is currently remanded at Ibara Correctional Center in Abeokuta for a related offense.
This operation underscores the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and protecting vulnerable children. The suspects are expected to face charges in court as investigations continue.
