Oriyomi Hamzat, CEO of Agidigbo FM, has been released after meeting bail conditions set by the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.
Hamzat, along with Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, and Fasasi Abdullahi, principal of Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, is facing charges related to a stampede at a funfair in Ibadan in December 2024, which resulted in over 30 fatalities, predominantly children.
The court granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦10 million, with two sureties in like sum. Additional conditions include the submission of their international passports and a prohibition on granting interviews during the trial.
Upon his release, Hamzat was greeted by a jubilant crowd. In a brief address, he expressed gratitude and indicated he would remain silent for the time being.
The case has been adjourned until January 27, 2025, for further proceedings.
