Breaking News: Simon Ekpa Arrested in Finland – Implications for FG

Finnish Authorities Arrest Simon Ekpa: FG’s Official Confirmation and Response

The Nigerian Federal Government has confirmed that Simon Ekpa, a controversial separatist leader and advocate of the sit-at-home orders in the southeastern region of Nigeria, has been arrested by Finnish authorities.

Ekpa, based in Finland, has been linked to promoting unrest and violence in Nigeria through his activities as a self-proclaimed leader of a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to reports, his arrest followed diplomatic efforts by the Nigerian government, which accused Ekpa of inciting violence and economic disruptions, particularly in the South-East, through his social media broadcasts.

The sit-at-home orders enforced by his group have led to significant hardship in the region, with businesses, schools, and public institutions forced to shut down.

The Nigerian government has commended the Finnish authorities for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration to address issues of cross-border security and justice.

The arrest is seen as a significant step in curbing the influence of individuals promoting instability from abroad.
