Nigerian singer Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from Kuje Prison after nearly two months of detention. His lawyer, Stan Alieke, announced the release on Tuesday evening, stating that Darlington regained his freedom after meeting bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Darlington was arrested in October 2024 following a petition by fellow musician Burna Boy, who accused him of defamation and cyberstalking. The allegations stemmed from a video in which Darlington insinuated an inappropriate relationship between Burna Boy and American rapper P Diddy.
After his release, Alieke expressed gratitude to supporters and emphasized that the legal team would pursue justice for the violation of Darlington’s rights during his detention. He stated, “We will be exploring every angle of the law to ensure that he gets justice for his fundamental human right, which was deprived of him by the Nigerian Police Force.”
The singer’s release has been met with jubilation among his fans, with social media platforms buzzing with celebratory messages.
