The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has initiated an investigation into the detention of Nigeria’s Super Eagles at Al Abaq Airport in Libya.
The Nigerian football team was stranded for over 13 hours without access to essential supplies such as food and water due to a flight diversion.
This incident occurred before their scheduled Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Libya. Following the ordeal, Nigeria withdrew from the match, citing concerns over the players’ welfare.
CAF’s probe seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.
This investigation follows complaints by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and public outrage over the team’s mistreatment.
The Libyan Football Federation has also faced criticism, with diplomatic tensions between the two countries increasing as a result of the situation.
