The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) for misconduct during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin.

The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, when Benin secured a goalless draw in Benghazi, leading to unrest among Libyan fans.

Reports indicate that supporters threw stones and bottles at the visiting team, resulting in injuries to some Beninese players and officials.

In addition to the fine, CAF has mandated that Libya play its next two official national team matches behind closed doors.

This decision underscores CAF’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring the safety of all participants in its competitions.

This sanction follows a previous fine of $50,000 imposed on the LFF in October 2024 for an incident involving the Nigerian national team.

In that case, Nigeria was awarded a 3-0 victory over Libya after being detained for over 16 hours at a remote Libyan airport without food or water.
