A Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for importing 35.20 kilograms of cannabis, commonly known as “Canadian Loud,” into Nigeria.
She was arrested on October 3, 2024, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos during the inward clearance of passengers arriving on a KLM flight from Canada.
Munju pleaded guilty to the charges, and the court sentenced her to six years on one count and five years on another, with the option of paying a ₦100 million fine in total.
She claimed she was recruited online to smuggle the drugs for $10,000, which she needed to fund her master’s degree in Canada.
