Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, the parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church in Izombe, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, was abducted by unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening, March 23, 2025. The incident occurred along Ejemekwuru Road as Fr. Ubaechu was en route to the Priests’ Annual Retreat.
The Owerri Catholic Archdiocese confirmed the abduction in a statement signed by its Chancellor and Secretary, Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbarah, who called upon the faithful and the general public to pray for Fr. Ubaechu’s swift and safe release.
As of now, there have been no reports of contact from the abductors or demands for ransom. Local authorities are actively investigating the incident and have urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward to aid in securing Fr. Ubaechu’s release.
