Terrifying Video: Catholic Priest’s Narrow Escape from Car Blast in Cross River

On New Year’s Eve, Reverend Father Michael Abang Obi, the administrator of St. Joseph de Worker Parish in Bansara, Cross River State, narrowly escaped death when his car exploded shortly after officiating a wedding. The incident occurred in Ogoja Local Government Area, where Fr. Obi has served for over 25 years.

After the wedding, Fr. Obi stopped to assist a group of local women gathering firewood in the church compound.

As he returned to his vehicle and was about to drive off, an explosion occurred. He was fortunate to have the car door open at the time, allowing him to escape unharmed. The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames following the explosion.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. Fr. Obi expressed gratitude for his survival, stating, “I am saved. Thanks be to God.”
