The Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, has issued an interim injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or acting upon any petition seeking to initiate a recall process against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The injunction was granted following an ex parte application filed by five registered voters from Kogi Central Senatorial District, who alleged that the recall petition contained fictitious signatures. The court’s order prevents INEC and its representatives from processing any such petitions or conducting referendums related to the recall effort until the motion on notice is resolved.
In response, some constituents from Kogi Central have criticized Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal action, interpreting it as an acknowledgment of her vulnerability to the recall effort. They argue that her attempt to block the petition reflects desperation and insist on pursuing the recall to uphold the district’s integrity.
The court has scheduled May 6, 2025, for further proceedings, including a report on the service of the court order and additional deliberations on the case.
