Happiness Sunday, a 42-year-old renowned food vendor in Akure, Ondo State, has been remanded at the Ondo Correctional Centre following her arraignment over the disappearance of a four-year-old child, Jensita Sunday, under her care.
The incident reportedly occurred on February 7, 2025, along Hospital Road in Akure. Happiness, owner of Chioma Restaurants, was charged alongside Nneka Onah, 23, the child’s mother, with two counts of child stealing.
According to reports, Nneka entrusted her daughter to Happiness after repeated assurances of proper care. However, after two weeks, Happiness allegedly approached Jensita’s father, Ifeanyi, demanding the child’s return without Nneka’s consent.
During the court proceedings, Happiness’s defense attorney requested bail on medical grounds, citing her client’s two-week detention. The magistrate, B.A. Alphonso, ordered Happiness’s remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for further investigation.The case has been adjourned until March 25, 2025, for mention.
