During the second round of the Australian Open, American tennis player Danielle Collins faced a hostile crowd while playing against Australian wildcard Destanee Aiava. Despite the challenging atmosphere, Collins secured a 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Throughout the match, Collins had several confrontations with the audience. At one point, she expressed frustration by telling the spectators to “shut up” during her serve, leading to increased booing.
After her win, Collins responded to the crowd’s hostility by blowing kisses and cupping her ear in a gesture reminiscent of professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. In her on-court interview, she remarked, “I was thinking during the match, as long as I’m out here, I might as well take that big fat check.” She humorously added that part of her prize money would fund a five-star vacation, thanking the crowd for their contribution.
