In 2011, Nigerian artist Davido signed his first official recording contract with Black Diamond Promotions, managed by Tosin Ashafa and Cecil Hammond. Recognizing his son’s dedication to music, Davido’s father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, intervened by buying out the contract to ensure Davido had full ownership of his work.
Davido acknowledged this support, stating, “My daddy wanted me to have 100 percent of whatever I’m doing.” This early backing was instrumental in Davido’s rise in the Nigerian music industry.
Dr. Adeleke, a prominent businessman, has been influential in Nigeria’s energy sector. He played a key role in securing permits for a $2 billion power plant, contributing significantly to the nation’s electricity supply.
