On March 12, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 36-year-old Virginia Basora-Gonzalez in Philadelphia for illegally re-entering the United States after deportation.
Basora-Gonzalez, a Dominican national, had previously been convicted in 2019 for fentanyl distribution in Pennsylvania, leading to a 12-month prison sentence followed by deportation in 2020.
Despite her prior removal, Basora-Gonzalez unlawfully returned to the U.S. and was apprehended outside her workplace after authorities received a tip regarding her presence.
She now faces federal charges for illegal re-entry, underscoring the ongoing challenges of enforcing immigration laws against individuals with criminal histories who attempt to re-enter the country.
