Don’t ‘Japa’: Cardoso Encourages Nigerians with CBN’s New Economic Vision

CBN’s Inclusive Economy: Cardoso Urges Nigerians to Stay and Thrive

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, has urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reconsider the trend of “Japa” (a popular slang for emigrating in search of better opportunities abroad).

Speaking at a recent forum, Cardoso emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering an economy where citizens can thrive and achieve their aspirations.

He stated:
“We understand the challenges many Nigerians face, but I assure you that the CBN is working tirelessly to create an enabling environment for everyone to prosper. We want Nigerians to see this country as a place where they can build a future, not one to run away from.”

Cardoso highlighted ongoing efforts, such as financial inclusion programs, support for small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), and monetary policies aimed at stabilizing the economy.

He also pointed to recent reforms targeting job creation and investment opportunities as signs of progress.

While his remarks have sparked a mix of reactions, with some applauding his optimism, others have expressed skepticism, citing lingering issues such as unemployment, inflation, and insecurity.

Many Nigerians, particularly the youth, have been leaving the country in search of better economic prospects, a trend that continues to raise concerns about brain drain and its impact on national development.
