Recall Efforts Against Senate Chairman Imasuen in Edo

​Constituents from Edo South Senatorial District have initiated a recall process against Senator Neda Imasuen, citing allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and betrayal of public trust. Representatives from five of the seven local government areas—Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia South West, Uhunwode, and Ovia North East—announced their intentions during a press briefing in Benin City. They expressed dissatisfaction with Senator Imasuen’s performance, accusing him of neglecting constituency projects and distancing himself from the electorate.

The group also referenced Senator Imasuen’s alleged disbarment by the New York State Supreme Court in 2010 for professional misconduct, calling for his prosecution and urging INTERPOL to conduct a thorough investigation.

In response, Senator Imasuen dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, suggesting that the individuals behind the recall effort were influenced by external interests. He stated, “They are doing a hatchet job because they are being paid from Kogi. I don’t see why someone is being paid to throw stones at his father’s house.”

This development follows Senator Imasuen’s involvement as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions in the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had filed a sexual harassment petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The constituents have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Senate, and anti-graft agencies to act on their petition, emphasizing their demand for accountable and transparent representation.
