The Edo State Election Petition Tribunal recently dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Alliance (AA) against Governor Godwin Obaseki’s re-election victory. The petitioners had challenged the outcome of the 2020 governorship election, alleging irregularities and misconduct during the election process.
However, the tribunal found that the petition lacked merit and did not present sufficient evidence to support the claims of the petitioners. As a result, the tribunal upheld the victory of Governor Obaseki, confirming that the election was conducted fairly and in line with the law.
This ruling has been seen as a significant victory for Governor Obaseki and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as it reaffirms his position as the legitimate governor of Edo State. It also signals the judiciary’s stance on election-related disputes in the state.
