The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), over allegations of significant financial misconduct during his tenure.
He is accused of inflating the NHIS’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) budget from ₦4.975 billion to ₦8.7 billion and approving payments beyond his authorized limit.
Further investigations revealed that Yusuf allegedly awarded contracts to companies linked to his family members. Notably, he is said to have granted contracts to Lubekh Nigeria Limited, where his nephew, Khalifa Hassan Yusufu, serves as a director.
EFCC operatives apprehended Yusuf at his Abuja residence on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. He is currently in EFCC custody and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
