The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained ten officers from its Lagos Zonal Command over allegations of theft involving missing operational items. The arrests were made last week following directives from the EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate corrupt practices within the agency.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the detentions, stating that the officers are currently under investigation for their inability to account for certain operational items. He noted that significant progress has been made in the investigations, and those found culpable will face internal disciplinary actions.
This development follows the recent dismissal of 27 EFCC officers in 2024 for various offenses, including fraudulent activities and misconduct.
The Commission has reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability within its ranks, emphasizing that any personnel involved in corrupt practices will be identified and appropriately sanctioned.
