Alef Aeronautics, a California-based startup, has achieved a significant milestone by publicly testing its electric flying car, the Model Zero. In a recently released video, the vehicle is seen driving on a public road, performing a vertical takeoff, and flying over a parked car. This demonstration showcases the Model Zero’s capability to seamlessly transition between driving and flying modes.
The Model Zero prototype, classified as an ultralight vehicle, serves as a precursor to Alef’s forthcoming commercial model, the Model A. Designed as a two-seater, the Model A aims to offer a driving range of approximately 200 miles and a flying range of up to 110 miles. Equipped with autopilot flight capabilities, the Model A is expected to be priced around $300,000, with pre-orders currently open for a $150 deposit.
Alef Aeronautics has been developing flying cars for about a decade, with the recent public test marking a significant step forward in making urban aerial transportation a reality. The company envisions that such vehicles could alleviate traffic congestion and transform personal transportation in the near future.
