The Enugu State Police Command has denied allegations that its officers demanded ₦25,000 to trace a missing University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, stated that there is no record of such a case being reported, and no officers were involved in soliciting money for tracking services.
These allegations surfaced following reports that the family of the missing student was asked to pay ₦25,000 as a “tracking fee” to assist in locating their daughter.
The family claimed that after making the payment, the police informed them that the student’s location was traced to Calabar, Cross River State, but further assistance was not provided.
In response, the Enugu Police Command emphasized its commitment to professional conduct and urged the public to report any misconduct by its officers.
The Command also encouraged individuals with credible information about the missing student to come forward to aid in the investigation.
The situation has garnered public attention, with calls for transparency and accountability in the handling of missing person cases.
