On April 1, 2025, in the Yovoyan community of Badagry, Lagos State, retired police officer Charles Atideka allegedly shot and killed three individuals, including two family members, over a protracted land dispute. The victims were identified as Richard Atideka, Mrs. Latevi Atideka, both from Yovoyan, and Mr. Muji Onilude from the neighboring Gberefu community.
According to reports, the incident occurred between 2:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. A survivor, Mr. David Atideka, recounted that he saw two armed men entering his compound; he recognized one as his brother, Charles Atideka. After the shootings, Charles allegedly ingested a poisonous substance. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
