Italian referee Fabio Maresca has been suspended from officiating in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League after allegedly threatening to kill a player during a match.
The incident reportedly occurred in a Kuwait Premier League game between Kuwait SC and Al-Arabi. Maresca is said to have clashed with player Khaled Al Mershed, after which he allegedly made the threat.
As a result, Maresca has been removed from his role in upcoming Champions League fixtures, including the PSV vs. Sporting CP match, and faces a one-month ban from Serie A duties.
While there are conflicting accounts of what was said during the altercation, Maresca’s suspension has been confirmed by various reports.
This incident has drawn significant attention, and Maresca is now under scrutiny for his conduct on the field.
