In 2024, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command achieved significant milestones in combating crime within Abuja and its environs. According to a report released on January 1, 2025, the command recovered a total of ₦409,992,000 from various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and fraud.
Breakdown of Recovered Funds:
Throughout the year, the command handled 1,426 reported cases, leading to the arrest of 1,077 suspects involved in various crimes:
In addition to financial recoveries, the command seized 376 firearms, including 13 AK-47 magazines and 187 rounds of live ammunition. They also recovered 73 vehicles from car theft cases, 24 from “one-chance” robbery cases, and 2 from cultism-related incidents.
Tragically, the report noted that 140 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty during the year. Despite these losses, the command’s efforts resulted in a 15.1% reduction in crime incidents within the FCT between 2023 and 2024.
Looking ahead to 2025, the FCT Police Command plans to intensify community policing engagements, intelligence-led strategies, targeted clearance operations, and public enlightenment initiatives to address evolving security challenges in the region.
