Muhsin Hendricks, recognized as the world’s first openly gay imam, was tragically shot dead on Saturday near Gqeberha, South Africa. The incident occurred while he was in a car with another individual; a vehicle blocked their path, leading to the fatal shooting. Hendricks was renowned for establishing a mosque that served as a sanctuary for marginalized Muslims, particularly those identifying as LGBTQ+.
