Former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday. His death was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family.
Dr. Olunloyo served as the governor of Oyo State from October 1 to December 31, 1983, on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). Beyond his political career, he was a distinguished mathematician, engineer, and technocrat. He held notable positions, including serving as the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic.
Born on April 14, 1935, Dr. Olunloyo was also recognized with traditional titles such as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has extended condolences to the people and government of Oyo State over Dr. Olunloyo’s passing.
