A Magistrate Court in Jos, Plateau State, has sentenced a man to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a goat.
The accused, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was found guilty of theft under the state’s criminal laws.
According to court records, the defendant was apprehended after being caught in possession of the stolen goat, which was reportedly taken from a local farmer.
During the hearing, the defendant admitted to the crime, pleading guilty, which led to a swift judgment.
The magistrate sentenced him to 18 months in prison without an option of a fine, emphasizing that the punishment was intended as a deterrent to others considering similar offenses.
The court also highlighted the importance of protecting livestock, which remains a vital source of livelihood for many in rural communities.
