Goodluck Jonathan’s Vision for Nigeria’s Political Integrity

A Call for Accountability in Nigerian Politics

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed optimism that Nigeria will evolve to a point where citizens actively reject misconduct from the political class. He emphasized that the behavior of political elites is often a reflection of societal tolerance for unethical practices. Jonathan stated, “We Nigerians celebrate the wrong things. But I believe that one day, the country will reach a point where people reject bad behaviour. And when that happens, these issues will no longer exist.”

He further highlighted that when citizens collectively refuse to accept wrongdoing, it compels politicians to act appropriately. “The day we all collectively say we no longer accept the wrong thing; the political class will behave properly. People must reject us if we act wrongly,” Jonathan added.

Jonathan also criticized the deployment of military forces during elections, suggesting that such measures undermine the democratic process. He expressed hope that Nigeria would evolve into a nation where bad political behavior is condemned.

These remarks underscore the importance of active civic engagement and the collective responsibility of Nigerians to demand accountability and integrity from their leaders.
