IGP Accused of APC Collusion by Governor Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has accused Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun of collaborating with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to enforce a non-existent court order, aiming to reinstate sacked local government chairpersons and councillors. During a meeting with British diplomats led by Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter, Governor Adeleke described the IGP’s actions as a significant threat to democracy in Nigeria.

The governor expressed concern over security forces allegedly supporting opposition elements in disrupting governance within the state. He highlighted incidents where security personnel reportedly assisted APC members in forcibly occupying local government secretariats, leading to clashes between APC and PDP supporters.

Despite these challenges, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to conducting peaceful, free, and fair local government elections, scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025. He called on the international community to observe the situation closely, emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to adhere to the rule of law and democratic principles.

The British delegation, in response, underscored the importance of neutrality in law enforcement and the protection of democratic processes. They emphasized that impartiality is crucial for maintaining public trust and ensuring the integrity of democratic institutions.
