Gunmen Abduct Catholic Priest in Enugu: Updates and Community Reactions

Crisis in Enugu: The Kidnapping of a Catholic Priest by Armed Men

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Gerald Ohaeri, was reportedly abducted by gunmen along the Ugwogo Nike-Opi Express Road in Nsukka, Enugu State, on December 2, 2024.

The Congregation of the Holy Spirit in the South-East region confirmed the incident and called for prayers for his safe release.

Similarly, Rev. Fr. Marcellinus Okide of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Amofia-Agu Affa, was also kidnapped while returning to his parish along the Eke-Affa-Egede Road in Udi Local Government Area.

Both incidents highlight the growing security challenges in Enugu State and the South-East.

The Catholic Diocese of Enugu and other stakeholders have appealed for stronger government action to curb the rising cases of kidnapping in the region.
