On the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), was abducted from his residence in the Works Layout area of Owerri, Imo State. Eyewitnesses reported that seven gunmen, dressed in black and arriving in a Sienna and a Lexus SUV, forcibly took him away around 7:00 p.m.
Following the incident, the Imo State Police Command initiated an investigation to determine Igboayaka’s whereabouts. Police spokesperson DSP Henry Okoye confirmed that the OYC President had not been arrested and urged anyone with pertinent information to promptly notify the police.
The National President of the Igbo National Council, Chilos Godsent, condemned the abduction and called on the Nigerian Police Force in Imo State to take immediate action to rescue Igboayaka and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As of now, the motive behind the abduction remains unknown, and no group has claimed responsibility. The incident has heightened concerns about security in the region, and the public is encouraged to assist law enforcement agencies by providing any information that could aid in Igboayaka’s safe return.
