On April 4, 2025, around 5:30 p.m., unidentified gunmen ambushed a convoy transporting Chinese expatriates and their police escorts to a company site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals, identified as Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai, and Police Inspector Audu Saidu. The assailants also seized Inspector Saidu’s rifle.
Upon receiving a distress call, a joint operation involving the Abia State Police Command, the military, and other security agencies was launched. This collaborative effort led to the rescue of three Chinese expatriates unharmed, while one sustained injuries. Additionally, Inspector Uba Ahmed was rescued with a gunshot wound to his leg; both injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Abakaliki.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, has assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, highlighting the need for enhanced measures to protect residents and foreign nationals working in the area.
