Gusau University has disowned the recently sacked Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, and has accused him of fraudulently obtaining his professorship.
The university made this claim after Esimone was dismissed from his position as VC of UNIZIK following an internal investigation that raised concerns about his qualifications.
Gusau University, where Esimone once served, asserted that his professorship credentials were not legitimate, and they have distanced themselves from him in light of the allegations.
They have pointed to discrepancies in his academic qualifications and career progression, accusing him of falsifying documents to secure his promotion to the rank of professor.
The allegations against Esimone have stirred controversy, with some defending his academic achievements, while others argue that such claims point to deeper issues of integrity in the higher education system.
The investigation into his qualifications is still ongoing, and both Gusau University and UNIZIK are reportedly cooperating with the relevant authorities to clear up the matter.
