In Antioch, California, Pastor Nick Neves, trained in martial arts, bravely subdued an intruder armed with an axe who attempted to rob his church on Thanksgiving morning.
The pastor, who practices jujitsu and kickboxing, confronted the suspect after being alerted by a security alarm at the First Family Church.
The intruder initially resisted Pastor Neves’ efforts to detain him, leading to a physical struggle that lasted 12-15 minutes.
Neves used his martial arts skills to restrain the man without causing serious harm until police arrived to make the arrest.
The incident caused property damage, including smashed windows, estimated to cost the church a few thousand dollars.
Despite the confrontation, Pastor Neves expressed compassion, hoping the experience would inspire the intruder to change his ways.
The church, which recently provided groceries to over 130 families in need, emphasized forgiveness and its commitment to serving the community.
