Security Guard Sentenced: The Mattress Theft Scandal in Ibadan

A 23-year-old security guard, David Nanbur, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for stealing mattresses worth ₦450,000 from his employer.

Nanbur pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and malicious damage. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.M. Olagbenro, offered him an option of a ₦30,000 fine payable to the Oyo State Government or, alternatively, one month of community service.

This case highlights the legal consequences of employee theft in Nigeria, emphasizing the judiciary’s stance on upholding property rights and deterring workplace-related crimes.
