IGP Demands Severe Penalties for Corrupt Officers Extorting Nigerians

Nigerian IGP Orders Harsh Punishments for Police Corruption and Extortion

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has issued a stern warning to police officers involved in extortion, particularly those who misuse his name or the names of other senior officers to exploit the public.

The IGP emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and unprofessional conduct.

He ordered enhanced supervision and monitoring of officers, with specialized units such as the IGP X-Squad and Complaint Response Unit tasked with conducting routine checks.

Officers found guilty of misconduct, including extortion, will face severe disciplinary actions.

Supervisory officers who fail to enforce these standards will also be held accountable.
