Immigration’s Heroic Rescue: Saving 10 Human Trafficking Victims in Jigawa

Jigawa’s Escape: Immigration Authorities Rescue 10 from Human Trafficking

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Jigawa State has successfully rescued 10 individuals suspected to be victims of human trafficking. The operation took place on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Tsamiyar Kwance in Babura Local Government Area.

The victims, aged between 21 and 30, include two males and eight females. They hail from various states: six from Ogun, two from Ondo, one from Oyo, and one from Imo.

During interrogation, the individuals revealed that they had been transported from different locations to Kano State, then to Babura, with the intention of crossing into Niger Republic en route to Tripoli in Libya. Their ultimate goal was to traverse the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Europe.

The NIS has handed over the victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further action. Comptroller Tahir Musa has urged parents to protect their children from being lured by false promises of a better life abroad.
