The political landscape in Rivers State has become increasingly volatile, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation or facing impeachment proceedings. Tony Okocha, the APC Chairman in Rivers State, announced this ultimatum during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on March 10, 2025, accusing Governor Fubara of mismanaging state affairs and disrespecting President Bola Tinubu.

This development follows a series of escalating tensions between the governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly. The Assembly, dominated by lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara to present the 2025 budget. The Assembly has also summoned the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to account for the 2024 local government elections and disclose details of the funds expended without appropriation.
