Israel has confirmed the death of Hashem Safieddine, a senior Hezbollah leader and the presumed successor to Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike earlier this month.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that Safieddine, along with other senior Hezbollah officials, was killed during a strike targeting Hezbollah’s main intelligence headquarters in southern Beirut on October 4, 2024.
Safieddine, who played a key role in Hezbollah’s decision-making processes, was also involved in directing terrorist activities against Israel. His death follows the earlier killing of Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in late September.
This assassination is part of a broader escalation in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict, with Israel targeting key Hezbollah leaders in recent strikes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Safieddine’s killing and suggested that Hezbollah is now struggling to maintain its leadership.
