In a heated Turkish Cup quarter-final on April 2, 2025, Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho appeared to pinch the nose of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk following Fenerbahce’s 2-1 defeat.
This incident led to Buruk falling to the ground, escalating tensions that had already been high due to a mass brawl during stoppage time, which resulted in three red cards.
Buruk downplayed the altercation, stating, “It’s not a big deal. I won’t exaggerate this.” However, Galatasaray vice-president Metin Ozturk condemned Mourinho’s actions as an attack on Turkish football.
This isn’t Mourinho’s first controversy in Turkey; earlier in the season, he faced accusations of racism from Galatasaray and subsequent disciplinary actions. The Turkish Football Federation is expected to review the incident for potential disciplinary measures.
