La Liga president Javier Tebas criticized Real Madrid for their decision to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony after learning that Vinicius Junior would not win the award.
Tebas, a Madrid fan himself, called the club’s action “exaggerated victimhood” and remarked that Real Madrid should have attended to uphold the club’s tradition of sportsmanship.
He emphasized that the award process is transparent, with votes cast by journalists globally, and suggested that Real Madrid’s response showed a lack of the “elegance” traditionally associated with the club.
