Jay-Z has filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman referred to as Jane Doe and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, alleging that they conspired to falsely accuse him of sexual assault, resulting in significant reputational and financial harm.
In December 2024, Jane Doe accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her when she was 13 years old at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards after-party. Jay-Z denied these allegations, describing them as a blackmail attempt.
The lawsuit, filed in Alabama, includes claims of malicious prosecution, abuse of process, civil conspiracy, and defamation. Jay-Z alleges that Jane Doe admitted to fabricating the story and that Buzbee encouraged her to pursue the false claims for financial gain.
Buzbee has denied these allegations, stating that the lawsuit lacks legal merit and that Jane Doe has not recanted her story. He maintains that they will address Jay-Z’s claims in court.
