Jigawa Discovers 6,348 Ghost Workers: A N3.7bn Payroll Fraud Exposed

Jigawa’s N3.7bn Ghost Worker Scandal Revealed – 6,348 Fake Employees

The Jigawa State Government has uncovered 6,348 ghost workers through a comprehensive staff verification exercise. This discovery is expected to save the state approximately ₦314.7 million monthly, totaling about ₦3.78 billion annually.

The verification was part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS) initiative aimed at enhancing payroll accuracy and eliminating fraudulent salary payments.

The state has approved the establishment of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) at the Office of the Head of Civil Service to maintain and update staff records, ensuring the integrity of the payroll system.

This initiative reflects Jigawa State’s commitment to financial prudence and effective public service management.

By identifying and removing ghost workers, the government aims to redirect resources towards developmental projects and genuine employee welfare.

It’s noteworthy that this is not the first instance of such findings in the state. Earlier, the government uncovered 240 ghost workers among temporary teaching staff, indicating a persistent issue that the current measures aim to address comprehensively.
